Separate climate from conditions
Climate normals describe patterns across many years. They do not predict the state of a trail on a specific date. A weather station in a town may not represent a ridge, pass or plateau. Use it to understand the region, then consult a forecast suited to the place and altitude.
Think in terms of terrain
On the Mediterranean coast, heat and sun exposure affect walking time. In Cappadocia, wind, frost and mud can alter trail conditions in the valleys. In the Kaçkar, rain, cloud and remaining snow influence high passes. In the Aladağlar and on Ararat, altitude and the pace of ascent shape preparation.
Plan for change
Check road access, fire restrictions, local closures and park guidance. Confirm water and accommodation for your walking dates. Prepare a shorter stage and an accessible alternative. A season that suits the region does not guarantee good conditions on the day.
Choose for the group
The best period also depends on pace, experience and tolerance of heat or humidity. Conditions that suit a fit group may still be uncomfortable for walkers who are less acclimatised.
