Separate climate from conditions
Turkish State Meteorological Service statistics show the contrast between coastal Antalya, Nevşehir on the Cappadocia plateau and Rize near the Black Sea. They help you choose a season but cannot predict your walking day. A town’s weather station does not describe conditions on a pass or in a canyon.
Think in terms of terrain
For Lycia, compare spring and autumn if you hope to avoid Antalya’s summer heat. Either can still bring hot spells or rain. In Cappadocia, look at night temperatures too: a pleasant daytime temperature does not tell you what to pack for the week. In Kaçkar, check pass conditions and remaining snow in particular; KTB gives August–September as a reference for climbing, without guaranteeing access.
Stage length matters. Day 5 of Cappadocia Trails allows 5–6 hours between Ortahisar, Meskendir, the Rose and Red valleys and Çavuşin. Ask about the start time and water arrangements for your dates. On the Antalya–Kekova trip, day 4 climbs from Göynük before a transfer to Yaylakuzdere: a coastal forecast alone is not enough to prepare for the whole day.
Plan for change
Check road access, fire restrictions, local closures and park guidance. Confirm water and accommodation for your walking dates. Prepare a shorter stage and an accessible alternative. A season that suits the region does not guarantee good conditions on the day.
Choose for the group
The best period also depends on pace, experience and tolerance of heat or humidity. Conditions that suit a fit group may still be uncomfortable for walkers who are less acclimatised.
