Frequently asked questions — Aventures Anatoliennes
Frequently asked questions about our Turkey trips: booking, payment, difficulty levels, equipment, accommodation, safety and responsible travel.
How do I book a trip?
Choose the trip you are interested in and request a quote from the trip page or via our contact form. We get back to you quickly to confirm dates, level and logistics, and to tailor the itinerary if needed. Your booking is confirmed once the deposit is received, according to our booking conditions.
Do you offer tailor-made trips?
Yes. Most of our itineraries can be adapted to your pace, your dates and your group (family, friends, private group). We also design fully bespoke trips: tell us about your project and we build the itinerary with you.
What are the payment terms and deadlines?
The trip is paid with a deposit at booking and the balance before departure. Exact amounts and deadlines are set out in our Booking conditions and on your quote. When online payment is offered, the payment page uses the QNB Finansbank 3-D Secure flow; accepted cards are shown at checkout.
Do you show prices on the website?
Our trips are quoted individually: the price depends on dates, group size, level of comfort and the services chosen. The quote sets out the price, included and excluded services, and the applicable terms.
How are small-group departures confirmed?
Dates and group size are specified in the offer. A departure is confirmed only after the applicable conditions, availability and participant numbers have been checked. A private departure can be considered on request.
How large are the groups?
Our guided treks run in small groups. The exact size depends on the itinerary and season; it is stated on each trip and on your quote. Private departures are available on request.
Is there an age limit?
Our trips are for walkers whose fitness suits the level of the route. Some itineraries are suitable for families with children; others, more demanding (high altitude, long stages), require prior experience. Contact us so we can confirm the trip best suited to your profile.
Are transfers included?
The transfers scheduled in the programme (arrival, stages, return) are arranged by us and detailed in each itinerary under “What's included”. We give you the meeting point and precise logistics before departure.
Are international flights included?
No, international flights are generally not included, so you can choose your own airline and departure airport. We are happy to advise on arrival airports and timings that fit the programme.
What kind of accommodation do you use?
Depending on the itinerary, accommodation may include village guesthouses, hotels, B&Bs, mountain refuges or bivouacs. The category, room arrangement and any single-room availability are specified in the programme or quote.
How are meals and special diets handled?
Meals in the programme showcase local, seasonal cuisine. Let us know about allergies or special diets (vegetarian, gluten-free…) at booking: we do our best with our partners whenever possible.
How do I read a trip’s level?
Each trip shows a level from 1 (easy) to 5 (very demanding), marked by the “ridge line” on the trip page. The level reflects daily walking time, ascent and terrain. If in doubt, write to us and we'll point you to the right itinerary.
Level 1 — Easy
3 to 4 h walking per day, little ascent, rolling terrain. Suitable for anyone who is regularly active; often fine for families.
Level 2 — Moderate
4 to 5 h walking per day, reasonable ascent. Basic good fitness is enough; no technical experience required.
Level 3 — Sustained
5 to 6 h walking per day, some longer days and ascent. Suitable for regular walkers used to several consecutive days of hiking.
Levels 4 & 5 — Demanding to high mountain
6 to 7 h of walking or more, significant ascent, sometimes altitude and committing terrain (e.g. the ascent of Mount Ararat). Very good fitness and, in some cases, high-mountain experience are required. We confirm your registration together.
How do I know a trip suits me?
Compare the level, walking time and ascent shown on the trip page with your usual practice. If you're hesitating between two trips, contact us: we know every itinerary on the ground and advise you honestly.
What equipment should I bring?
The essentials: broken-in hiking boots, a daypack, layered clothing (breathable base, fleece, waterproof jacket), sun protection (hat, sunglasses, cream), a water bottle and a small personal first-aid kit. A detailed packing list, tailored to your trip and season, is sent to you before departure.
Is season-specific gear needed?
Yes: in high summer, prioritise sun protection and hydration; in spring/autumn and at altitude, bring warm layers and a good jacket. Snow or high-altitude treks may require specific equipment — this is stated on the trip.
Do I need to train beforehand?
Regular physical activity in the weeks before departure (walking, hiking, endurance) is strongly recommended, all the more so at higher levels. Walking with your boots and pack before the trip avoids unpleasant surprises.
How is luggage handled during the trek?
Luggage arrangements depend on the itinerary. When stage-to-stage transfer is provided, it is listed in the programme or quote; otherwise, the required carrying arrangement is stated before booking.
What language is the trip guided in?
The language and role of the trip leader depend on the trip and departure and are confirmed in the written offer. A self-guided itinerary may have no leader on the trail; the included welcome and assistance services are then listed separately.
Is travel insurance required?
Insurance covering assistance and repatriation, suited to hiking and, where relevant, high altitude, is mandatory. Cancellation cover remains strongly recommended. Check that your policy covers the activity and altitude of your trip.
What happens in bad weather or if something unexpected occurs?
On a guided departure, the trip leader may change a time, stage or route according to weather, ground conditions and the group's situation. On a self-guided trip, travellers must follow the procedure and contacts supplied before departure. The applicable arrangements are set out in the programme and offer.
Are special permits needed for some summits?
Some areas or ascents, including Mount Ararat under the applicable rules, may require authorisation. The arrangements we handle, required documents and lead times are confirmed in the programme or offer.
What does responsible travel mean to you?
Where suitable for the trip, we use limited group sizes, providers established in the regions visited, and guidance on respecting trails, villages and natural environments. The specific choices depend on the itinerary.
How do you support local communities?
Where the itinerary allows, we contract directly with guesthouses, transport providers, muleteers and guides established in the region. The programme or quote identifies the services selected for that trip.
How can I limit my impact during the trek?
Carry out your waste, stay on authorised trails, limit water use, and respect wildlife, plants and local customs. Route-specific guidance is provided in the departure information or by the trip leader.
What is the best season to hike in Turkey?
Timing depends on the region, altitude, snow cover and temperatures. The coast and high mountains follow different calendars. Possible periods for a route are shown in its trip information; the feasibility of requested dates is checked before confirmation.
Is it too hot in summer?
On the Mediterranean coast, heat and limited shade can make some stages unsuitable in summer. In the mountains, altitude changes temperatures but does not remove storm or rapid-weather risks. Timing is assessed route by route.
What weather should I expect in the mountains?
Mountain weather changes fast: a single day can swing between bright sun and showers, and evenings are cool even in summer. We give you a clothing list tailored to each trip so you set off well prepared.
Can you hike in winter?
Some low-altitude routes may be considered in winter, subject to weather, trail conditions, access and open services. In Cappadocia and on the coast, feasibility is checked for the requested dates.
Do I need a visa for Turkey?
It depends on your nationality and the length of your stay. Many travellers enter visa-free or with an e-visa for a short tourist stay, but the rules change: check with the Turkish authorities or your consulate before you travel. We are happy to point you in the right direction.
Do I need any special vaccinations?
No specific vaccination is generally required for Turkey. Just make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date and ask your doctor for advice based on your situation. This is general information, not medical advice.
Is there phone signal and drinking water on the trails?
Mobile coverage is good near villages but weak or absent on some mountain sections. Plan to carry enough water, as water points can be far apart. Our guides know the resupply spots on every stage.
